America the land of free

13 Angry Colonies Came together to start the foundation of what would be the United States Of America. As we grew we pushed and Killed ingenious Native America's out tribe by tribe. America used slaves, people brought from mostly Africa. Because white people didn't believe these Africans were actually people. That they had feelings. They thought of them as property, Their property.

Of course I'm skipping a lot but our history as a nation hasn't always been great. Maybe it is for white straight men it has. They might feel yea it wasn't so bad for us. Especially because even women couldn't own property or vote. Get divorced had No laws protecting them from anything.

Fast forward

Slaves get are freed but then the President who frees them was shot. He -Lincoln was a republican. He was working towards a better America. One for everyone. One where we could all be treated equally. His ideas were radical for the time. He was a liberal. The republicans were liberals. The southern democrats were conservative. They wanted to keep "their" slaves. Slaves became free but they weren't really free. Institutionalized slavery -Jim crow - gerrymandering -voter intimidation all these things followed and people had to fight for a long time. You might recall the civil rights movement. None of this was quick. Took lots of people coming together to fight for a common cause.

Even women had to fight for a long time to be able to vote.

For me The Obama administration was my Lincoln.

He brought about huge change. Things I thought I would never see in my lifetime. One of them being the repeal of don't ask, don't tell. Second was hearing the President of the United States supporting marriage equality. After for so long we had been fighting to be recognized. We had been fighting for Equal Rights. We were fighting to be seen as equal citizens under the law.

President Bush, went out of his way to deny marriage equality. He even signed the Defense of marriage act. My own parents voted for an amendment to the Wisconsin constitution saying marriage was between one man and one women. Which Later was struck down by the Wisconsin Supreme Court. But this was now the party of he Republicans. I grew up all around Republicans. A good majority weren't nice to me. Didn't accept me for who I was. I had to fight everyday to be who I am.

When President Obama came into office and as the years went on the world started to change. People became nicer to gay people at least for the most part. It also helped that I lived in very liberal places as well. But I met other people like me, people who saw the world like me.

When the 2016 election came around I saw a shift. That now white straight and yep mostly uneducated people were angry. They felt like they work to support all the liberals. There tax dollars were going to support food stamps and welfare. When in reality there candidate cost them a billion $$ and that's one person. One rich person cost the middle class tax payers a billion dollars. Yes it's smart use your deductions but you angry white people are mad at health care or a single mom who needs help putting food on the table yet your perfectly okay with supporting a man who lives in a penthouse flies around on a private plane & lives lavishly. It doesn't make any sense to me. Or you go out support these companies that pay their employees minimum wage and the CEO is making millions. With a company that probably pays zero in taxes as well.

And then your mad that those same people have to be on Food Stamps to support their family.

Doesn't make any sense to me.

These Same people put themselves on a pedestal. I remember one of them saying to me the only reason he (Obama) got elected was because he put people on buses to go and vote. I said so. They should be able to vote. Open free election. Why can't anyone be taken to go vote. Is your vote superior? Directing hate after hate towards liberals . Obstructing anything Obama tried to do that normally would be done if it was any other person.

They (especially Donald Trump) Spread the lie that the President (Obama) wasn't from the United States and then falsely blamed Hillary Clinton's campaign of starting it. Going as far to even cite false news reports they (conservatives) believed to be true. Even trump continue to spew it out even after the President supplied his birth certificate.

What I saw in trump & his supporters brought me back to years of fear. Fear for my rights, fear that hate would take center stage but this fear went further. Even fear for my safety. I saw that trump and his supporters threatened democracy. Went back to the ways of voter intimidation. Promoting hate. Hate for Muslims and immigrants. Trying to ban a whole religion from entering America the land of the free. A country that was founded on religious freedom.

Promoting lies about immigrants . Mexicans specifically. You know we bought some of our country from Mexico ? You know that most of our ancestors were immigrants. Probably illegal immigrants coming here to build a better life for themselves and there families.

The rhetoric and anger I saw from Trump and his followers scared me to my core. I saw videos of white kids chanting to Latino kids to build a wall. I saw hate hate and m

more hate spewed out from Trump & his people.

Then I saw Hillary Clinton. Someone who was so hated by so many people. But it didn't stop her. It didn't rattled her. She kept going promoting her message of love. I went to one of her rallies I cried listening to her speak. It was amazing . The crowd was America. The crowd was a little bit of everyone . With the same hopes . To build on all the good that Obama accomplished . To promote love, equality and build up a cleaner safer better America for all. I felt such hope and optimism that we could go into the future and build a more perfect union. A more perfect union for all of us.

It didn't happen.

I couldn't sleep. Couldn't eat. I was scared . About what was going to happen I'm engaged to an immigrant . One who knows that he's been looked at by whites people and recognized as different. My heart hurt. My heart hurt for every minority out there. And I knew I wasn't alone. I am not the only one scared. The majority of Americans voted for exactly what I did. The majority of Americans wanted to continue President Obama's legacy. To build on it and make America even better for everyone. But we lost and being a minority in this country is scary. And those who are not a minority straight white people mostly don't get it. Even some gay people don't get it . I consider them lucky they don't get it. Even though I know it's the same people that inflict this kind of hate onto us.

I am lost as what to feel. A Republican controlled house . Senate . And Presidency & Supreme Court. Knowing that the majority of Americans did not support this. How is this a country for the people? How am I suppose to feel when my very rights could be taken away from me. My healthcare ? Me being an equal citizen under the law. It's scary and it's something Trump supporters don't get. We are scared and know that a majority of America didn't not vote for this.

I am sad for America.

The last time someone became President without winning the popular vote. It was a disaster for our nation and I fear it will be again. Hillary won the election. Trump won the system. We do not live in a democracy anymore. The electoral college is no longer needed and no longer helps America be governed by the people. And I am not just saying that because Hillary lost it. I've thought it for a long time just as Trump and HIllary both have said. Its time to go.
