Spice Girls 20th Anniversary
February 22 marks 19 years since the Spice Girls hit #1 on the Billboard Chart right here in America. We were a little late to the party, but Spice Mania hit the US with a vengence.
Too celebrate Eva Longoria has put together a performance of Wannabe. But she does it in the style of a soap opera. You might never hear wannabe the same.
I can still remember the first time I heard about the Spice Girls, I came home from school in 4th grade and my mom and sister were telling me I had to hear this new song. It came on the radio and I was like what is this crap. Eventually I fell in love with The Spice Girls, and have been to two concerts, have all their cd's and am a life long fan. Which is a bit odd, but the Spice Girls for me were an escape. They gave me confidence, they told me it was okay to be who you, to love your friends, and just not too take life to seriously. I grew up in the country and had dreams of being a superstar. I wasn't really accepted by the people around me because I was so different, that being gay and femine. I really clung to the Spice Girls because they were the only ones that I heard saying I was alright just the way I am and that one day it all will work out.
That being said here is the Spice Girls Debut Single-Wannabe
The single that had the most influence in my life came much later in the Spice Girls career. Its a song that most won't know and wasn't released in the US as a single. This song saved my life once, and will forever be one of my favorites. With a message of love and acceptance.
Let Love Lead The Way from the cd Forever
When I was 15 I was very depressed about life, and I didn't want to be on this planet anymore. I didn't see a future-I didn't want to be gay, and I just really hated myself.
I remember starting to take pills to end my life and this song came on, and the words "you can be alright and still can be who you are." I stopped, woke up my parents, and got some help. It was a turning point for me, because I really heard what they said. And I believed it.
It took me awhile but my life turned around, I was accepted by more and more people, and most importantly I learned to love myself.
The campaign #itgetsbetter is something I believe in so strongly because it really does get better. As a teenager its hard to see a future sometimes, and it could seem like where you at then will be where you stay for the rest of your life. But it really does get better, and you are given a chance after high school to build your own life, and find friends who love and support you.
Another song that really inspired me was by Miss Melanie C. Northern Star. this song inspires me...
"they buy your dreams so they can sell your soul"
The Spice Girls have hit after hit, and were a Phenoman of the 90s. Inspiring and Fun.
